2007 COOPERATIVE STEWARDSHIP WORKSHOP

This year’s theme is “Looking at the Land”.  We will examine a range of views about landscapes: how we perceive them, value them and manage them.  Speakers will present Native and non-Native thoughts on the importance of places and our cultural concepts about land.  Panel discussions will address landscape studies in the context of regulation and public agency land management responsibilities. We’ll evaluate recent efforts to collaborate on the identification, interpretation and protection of important landscapes and talk about how our communities can inform one another.

Sunday morning, work groups will turn our discussions into practical products: plans for future gatherings, suggested policies and procedures for tribal monitoring as part of compliance projects; plain-language explanations of laws and regulations; functional approaches to maintaining communication networks.
